Another artwork that totally gets the severity of mountain winter is the breath-taking Bourbaki Panorama by Edouard Castres in my sweet little hometown of Luzern.
I’ve never seen a better translation of the time- and spacelessness of deep, deep mountain winter and the impossible optical simultaneity of dusk and dawn that can make you lose your mind if you don’t stick your head in the snow every now and again.
Anyway, go see this panorama when you’re in central Switzerland. You won’t regret it. It will leave a lasting chill in your old bones.
