I’m not on Tumblr anymore but I’m just reblogging this to illustrate WHY I’m not on Tumblr anymore. Basically, I took this picture at London’s Wellcome Collection back in February this year and posted it to Flickr clearly stating where it’s from and my interest to know more about the background of it as the exhibition displays were just being changed and I didn’t have any info to it:

“Beautiful book that used to be on display at Wellcome Collection, London, but seems to have been taken off the permanent Medicine Man displays. If anyone has more information on this, PLEASE let me know. Thank you!”

At some point, someone on Tumblr decided it’s cool to just share it without even the little information about the Wellcome Collection attached to it. It’s not a good picture and I don’t fucking care it’s mine - what I do care about, however, and what we should all care about when we share things online is:
1) The source (Wellcome Collection, London)
2) The context (Medicine Man exhibition about the life and work of Henry Wellcome.)
To remove this little information makes the picture completely and utterly worthless in both a historical and artistic context because it just becomes another piece of visual ephemera floating around the interweb and by uploading it to imgfave.com instead of linking to my post about it, even people who DO care about sourcing, will never find it unless they can be bothered to use reverse image search engines.
So do fucking list your sources and don’t think your Tumblr is somewhat cooler and totally dada if you just have a constant flow of contextless images. That’s TV for you. The interweb offers you so much more. Use it wisely or fuck off.

GOODBYE, CRUEL TUMBLR!
Right, so I managed to (at least partially) merge my WordPress with my Tumblr and I will therefore be posting from my old website again.
Goodbye, lovers and sinners, it sure has been a great ride.

Note To Recent Followers

I only check my new followers maybe once every three months and I will only add you if your username rings a bell.

I don’t mean to be rude but truth is that I simply don’t have the time to check out hundreds of blogs.

So if you feel that I would enjoy your blog and want to be added back, please send me a message and I’ll check it out, yo!

Dankeschön.

binnorie asked: Ms. Wurzeltod,

So happy you Tumbled Dan Ouellette's Mewler and the group exhibit I've placed the work in.

Love your work. Hope you're well!

Samantha

You’re most welcome, Samantha. What an amazingly inspired show you’ve put together. I had no idea it was you behind it. That immediately makes it a gazillion times better, of course.

Good luck for the show! x

theredshoes asked: ....do you want a minion? Because after reading your answers to all the other questions I must express my admiration somehow.

Thank you very much for the touching words. No offence but I really don’t believe in co-owned blogs. Especially not here on Tumblr. I’ve tried group blogging about a decade ago but even though I had amazingly clever and talented people helping and writing with me, I was very much startled by the way a clear concept, directive and aesthetic can get diluted and how I started toning my voice down, how I started regurgitating irrelevant news I didn’t feel any passion for just so that I was the first to post it and how I started writing for an audience. I hated that. Never ever write for an audience. It will up your Google ranking and iEgo forsho but it kills all good (blog) writing. Amen.

liquidnight asked: Here is a different version of that photo you recently asked about, with background information:

The book in which I found it is absolutely wonderful, just in case you haven't seen it already. But then again, pretty much anything from The Burns Archive is guaranteed to be a treasure.

Wow.. I should really check my messages more often - I’ve only just discovered this.

Thank you so much for the background information, it sure is greatly appreciated to finally have a context for that photograph. x

urhajos asked: Hey! I love your stuff and i hope you'll share some fantastic pieces of art in the future too. I'm sad that you stopped posting onto your blog, but it's also ok with this account. Please keep up the good work! Cheers : )

Thanks, mate. I will keep it coming. In my own time though.

I haven’t actually stopped posting on the WurzelEmpire® for good, I just really don’t have any time for the website and the forum at the moment, but if you have an RSS reader, make sure to add both sites to it and you’ll see when they’re up and running again. Apologies for the long absence.

Anonymous asked: Interspace: you've found new love (r.m.fenner) ?, interspace: you're a gallery owner ? is that all true or just interspace? ... time is running oh my godo :-)

Yes, it seems so. The Fenner is the ultimate proof that my little shrivelled black heart can still be broken with masterful mix CDs and blue-eyed charm. I’m that simple, really.

The gallery project is having its ups and downs and it’s hiccuping its way through floods and major and minor disasters, but yeah, for now, you can stay tuned by subscribing to the newsletter here

The Neutral Flag by Michael Leon, 2010, silkscreen, fabric dyed, 150 x 97 cm
Currently on show at Pool Gallery, Berlin.
This is REALLY odd as I actually sent the Bundesrat a proposal to change the Swiss flag to gritty bloody white on pewter in 1991 for the Helvetic 700-year celebrations. AVANT-LA-BLOODY-LETTRE. That’s me.

Anonymous asked: Are you going to the London Tattoo Convention? On Saturday or Sunday, look out for the halo of medical clamps :)

Nah, I hate the tattoo scene even more than the art scene. And that sure means something, lemme tell ya. >_<

A halo of medical clamps, however, sounds very intriguing indeed… do tell me more, please.

eyetwitch asked: This time I have a request- can you put more music videos you like up? I have found a couple of new bands that I really liked through your posts.

I appreciate that you found new bands but my taste in music is seriously… unstable… and I just post whatever I feel like and very often, I can only listen to BBC Science & Nature and Steve Reich as the transcendence of music upsets me too much.

But I kinda started using my Last.fm so maybe you can find something interesting there? Your call.

Anonymous asked: 3 years ago you told me that you don't believe in souls --- Remember ? ---Still think you've got no soul ? --- dings

Hey you, dings! Course I remember our smoked-filled early morning conversations on the patio. ^__^

Yes, I still stand by that statement. Souls are bullshit. We have a consciousness, subconsciousness and an unconsciousness with an anima and an animus, but no “soul”.

Like most religio-ideological concepts, it’s a terribly cute idea of the desperate mind, and definitely deserves some literary credit as it made a lot of great thinkers write great things, but noes, it’s clearly a construct.
