Jun Togawa by Suehiro Maruo
I could be making a fool of myself here, but… I call bullshit.
I do not think that is a legitimate Suehiro Maruo piece. For one thing, it looks more along the lines of someone successfully copying his style than an actual Maruo work. It is lacking in some way; it definitely does not feel like the real deal. More to the point, uh, the likelihood that there is a legitimate Maruo illustration of Jun Togawa that exists in this world and has never before crossed before my eyes seems awfully slim. I encourage anyone to prove me wrong, but, a cursory google search and some slight investigation turn up nothing which adds any legitimacy to this. Such searching only generates passages in which both are mentioned from vomitous COOL AND WEIRD JAPANESE STUFF THAT IS SO JAPANESE-type writing, or, links to users who have reblogged this image.
i think it’s from this issue of tokyo otona club (fifth from the top). i reckon you speak you some azn, but for those of you playing at home, in the table of contents, it says that maruo illustrated something called “the tale of jun togawa” in 1984, the year tamahime-sama was released.
i haven’t been able to verify the origins of the picture, either, but i’m inclined to believe that it’s legit.
get it negaversayce!!
What negaversace said. Also, stylistically speaking, the lines in the skirt and gloves are so Maruoesque it would be a massive surprise to me if it wasn’t by him. Maybe it’s the unusual way to deal with the background that confused you?
[NOTE: I’m not back on this Tumblr thang, but this is about Maruo, after all.]
